Whether it is for personal or business reasons, making sure you have made the appropriate preparations is a key component of having a pleasant flight experience. Below are a few pre-flight airline travel tips to help you prepare for your flight.

Pack Smart: Don’t put all of your essential items in one luggage bag. Divide the essentials between your luggage bags. If you do this and a luggage piece is lost, you will not lose all of your important belongings. Mark your luggage bags with something that will make it easy to identify. This will help prevent someone else from taking your luggage by mistake. When it comes to traveling with cash in another country, carry only the required amount of local currency that you need when you are in the foreign country. Make sure that you will be able to use your bank debit card in another country. As well, make sure you have the appropriate traveler’s checks that can be used in the country.

Make Copies of Essentials Documents: With any important document that you are taking with you on your trip, make sure you have made copies of those documents and they are stored in a safe place on your trip and in a safe place at home.

Flight Confirmation: It is important to call and reconfirm your booking about 24-72 hours in advance of the scheduled flight. Check with news sources such as local television to make sure there have not been any issues that will cause a flight disruption or cancellation. You can also check the airline online to see if there have been any changes with your flight.

Identification and Passports: Passengers over the age of 16 must show government-issued photo identification for domestic air travel such as a driver’s license or health card. For those under the age of 16, non-government issued identification such as a student ID card or birth certificate is recommended. When traveling internationally, every passenger, including their children, must provide a valid passport.

Visas: It is essential that you check the visa requirements for the countries you are visiting. The Consular Affairs website has a list of countries that you need a visa to travel to. Check the International Travel Reports to make sure there are no security, safety, and health issues with the county you are going to visit.

Insurance: When traveling to another country or even state or province, it is important that you are protected. Check with your Credit Card Company, home insurance policy, and auto club insurance to see if you have adequate coverage for medical emergencies, lost or stolen luggage…etc. Consider purchasing travel insurance. Make sure you know exactly what your coverage entails.

Immunizations: It is important to make sure you have the appropriate vaccinations for the health risks associated with the country you are traveling. In some countries, immunization is a requirement for entering that country. Anti-malarial medications may have to be started weeks in advance of the flight.

Prepare for Airport Security: Make sure you know what you can take on the flight and what is prohibited. Passengers are allowed to bring liquids, gels and aerosols through security screening as long as the items are packaged in containers with a capacity of 100ml / 100 grams or less, and that the containers fit in one sealable clear plastic bag.

Before you embark on your next flight, it is important to make the necessary preparations so that your trip will be relaxing and enjoyable.

An airplane trip is very exciting for kids, especially if they don’t often get to fly. If it’s been a while since you’ve traveled with your children, these tips should help you have a smooth flight.

If you are bringing a stroller along, you’ll have to remove the child and fold it up (the stroller, not the child!) to go through x-ray. Everyone’s shoes will need to come off as well. If you are trying to manage several kids at once, enlist the help of the oldest and let them know in advance what is expected of them. Airport employees are usually happy to help if it gets too much to handle, and often the people in line with you will offer to help.

If you have a baby on formula, take a dry powder form if possible, and add water later. You can buy some water after you go through security.

If you have a very small child that can sit on your lap you won’t need to buy an extra seat. However, it might be worth the extra money just to have your hands free. If it’s a long flight, holding a small child on your lap will get fatiguing.

If your kids are bringing carry-ons with games and such to occupy them, let them know that you expect them to be responsible and keep up with their stuff. It’s real easy to set it down in the waiting area and forget it, or leave it on the plane when disembarking.

If you have an infant, be sure to bring a change of clothes, diapers (bring plenty!), wipes, favorite toys, and maybe a book or two to read to them or, if they are old enough, for them to look through.

For the problem of ear popping, give the kids a piece of gum to chew to help relieve the pressure. Some children are not bothered by it at all.

If you plan to use a car seat on the plane, make sure yours is airline approved (check for a label on the seat).

Be sure to check in early at the airport. It is said that there is never a “too early” at the airport, only a “too late.”

Consider a bribe. Dubious but yes it works! Buy each child a new toy and let them know they can’t play with it until they are on board the plane. This will occupy them for quite some time!

Let your kids know that while flying they must remain seated with their seatbelt on at all times unless they need to use the restroom. If they already expect this rule, it won’t be so hard to enforce once you are on the plane.

Keep your sense of humor! Relax and enjoy the flight and the excitement of your kids.

So I realized I had to change my bad habits to better protect my aching back.

This became quite clear. On my first recent trip, I did everything wrong. I aggravated my back and created unnecessary back pain.

Then I got smart and figured what to do so I didn’t arrive in agony with an aching back. It made so much difference I’m going to share them with you.

Airline Is Not Easy On Your Body

Flying causes us to use our bodies in ways that are not normal for us in our every day life. When traveling, we are twisting, turning, and lifting heavy suitcases in ways that are abnormal. We are bending over to take our luggage off the baggage claim tram. We are putting our carry on luggage in the over head bin. This is like weight lifting! It is certainly not what we do in our daily life.

Then, let’s not forget the uncomfortable seat on the airplane with the cramped space the airlines leave you today.

So here are the 10 tips that I want to share with you to keep your back from aching, too.

Airline Travel Tips

1)Pack light – Think about the clothes you will pack. Choose the lighter ones. Coordinate outfits so you need fewer clothes.

2)Order a wheel chair – Don’t be proud! Believe me, you can save yourself a lot of pain if you let someone else ‘taxi’ you to the gate. This is really important with short connecting flights. But frankly, you get special treatment when you are going through airport security. I’ve found that wheel chairs have priority for security checks.

3)Preboard – You will have help with every aspect of your getting seated. The Flight Attendant will help you to get settled, and you won’t be rushed. He or she should offer to put your luggage in the luggage rack. By the way, if you are in a wheel, you will be preboarded.

4)Don’t lift your carry on luggage into the luggage rack – Let the flight attendant help you. Or ask a gentleman near you to put it up and take it down for you. If there is no one around to help you, pick up the luggage in stages. First, put it on the seat. Then move it up on the arm of the seat. Then to the back of the seat. Then into the luggage rack.

5)Don’t twist while moving any luggage – Twisting is disastrous for your lower back, especially when you are moving something heavy. Instead move your feet in little steps to get into the right position.

6)Reserve an aisle seat – There are many benefits to this. You have more space. You can get up easier and don’t have to twist and contort your body as much. You can also move about the cabin easier to move your body so it is better oxygenated to reduce the pain you might have otherwise.

7)Use a seat support – If you have your own, this is the best. Otherwise, make sure you have an extra blanket and/or pillow for back support. Recline your seat as often as possible. You take pressure off your back by doing this. Also, keep your knees at a right angle to support your back. Use a pillow, your carry on luggage, or an inflatable device to put under your feet to get the right angle.

8)Take your pain relief meds – I always use a topical pain relief product. I put it on my lower back and anything else that is hurting before I leave for the airport. This helps the back pain from flaring up as much.

Also, I use my 1 Minute Pain Relief immediately after I get off the plane. I see no need in letting pain get the better of me by pretending it won’t rear it’s ugly head.

9)Drink lots of water – This will help keep your body oxygenated and help flush out toxins in your body that add to and agitate pain. Don’t hesitate to ask for water if the flight attendants don’t offer you what you desire.

10)Walk up and down the aisles – You will avoid becoming as stiff by moving about the airplane and stretching. Do be careful. Stable yourself by touching the back of the seats. You do not want to fall. Try to move about the cabin every 30 minutes.

I hope these tips have helped you.

One of the major issues today with consumers in regards to air travel is the amount of lost baggage. Did you know that over 4 million bags a year are either lost, damaged, or in some cases, both? It is important to think about these things when preparing for take off and included in this article are several tips to help secure your luggage while flying to your destination. First, I’d like to mention that over the holidays years ago my bag was lost when the airline changed gates on my flight. This was not a small change but a change which had us traveling across the entire Houston airport from one side to another before our flight took off in 15 minutes. Not fun. Of course, when we arrived at our destinations much of the people who were in the same situation as myself had lost baggage as well. The lost luggage claim line was quite long that evening at 11pm.

My baggage did arrive, however, about a week later. The only problem was that the baggage from LAX came 90% emptied out. All the Christmas gifts and clothing (even my underwear)…gone. It is a known truth that the airlines do in fact subcontract the baggage returns to your address. Mine was a rather interesting experience where the man called on the phone and told me to leave a note saying it is ok that they leave my bag outside my door if I would not be home whenever they so decided to deliver my bag. This, I believe, is where the problem occurred as I would have rather just picked it up myself from their location, but rather the delivery people did not allow it. I am not sure how this came about but I did learn a valuable lesson. There are many little stipulations that airlines have in regards to getting reimbursed for stolen luggage. First, there are a few things they do not cover.

Items such as jewelry, electronics, furs and negotiable instruments are not covered by the airlines if lost or stolen, so keep those items with you on the plane. Next, every airline may have a different policy and many even give more priority to first class and frequent fliers over everyone else. Once you do receive payment for the stolen items, it is in a depreciated value and a lot of times they will require a receipt (in my case, receipts were required if items were valued $100 or more.) So what can travelers do to protect themselves from baggage problems? There are several things you can do, some more convenient than others. First, and most obvious, would be to simply pack light and take your luggage on the plane with you. Next, would be to take those items that you will need shortly after getting off the plane, such as toiletries and items needed for meetings or gifts for those you may be traveling to visit. Remember those electronic devices, furs, jewelry and the items not covered by the airlines in case something does happen.

Identifying your bag is another important thing to remember if you ever need to file a claim. So, always make sure your name and contact information is located on the outside of your baggage as well as inside in case the tags put on the bags should fall off and the airline needs to reach you. Take a quick picture of your bag before checking in, just in case something is broken off or torn apart during the flight. After you arrive to your destination, take a quick peek inside your bag and make sure nothing was skimmed off the top by thieves with access to your bags. Lastly, if you really do not want to check in bags and have a little extra money, you can always ship the luggage overnight via FedEx or Luggage Concierge. I know it seems a little over the top, but everyone has preferred methods and many people actually pay the $50 or so it costs just to have that peace of mind and their baggage simply delivered to their door. One out of about 150 travelers ever have a problem with a mishandled bag last year. So if there is one thing to remember, it is always a good idea to simply take precautions with your baggage especially during the holidays and have a great flight.

Without a doubt, scheduling a trip on a plane is one aspect of planning a vacation that most people falter in. Few people realize exactly how to get the best rates when trying to book a flight, and they often lose money by not planning properly. For that reason, we’ve written this article to help inform you about exactly what you should do and what you should not do when you are planning to take a trip on an airplane.

As soon as you’ve decided where you want to go, it is of utmost importance to make the plane reservations as soon as possible. The best discounts for airlines are usually given to those who book more than 21 days in advance of the flight.

To get a good rate, ensure that your trip involves a Saturday night stay at your destination. Ensure that your flight dates are during the week to help limit the costs of flying.

It’s usually best to consult the internet when looking for tickets. There are several airline search engines available that scour airline rates for the best possible air fare prices.

If the time in which you take the vacation is flexible, it’s best to take the trip in the off-season. Also, if you are flexible about when you want the plane to depart from the airport, you can save a good amount of money. Flights that leave very early in the morning and those that leave in the late evening are the fares that are most likely to be unfilled and therefore, cheaper.

If you’re taking a long trip and it doesn’t seem like the rate is as low as it could be, consider trying to buy two round-trip flights with a midpoint in your destination. For example, if traveling from New York to California, check if there’s any way to take a flight from New York to a mid-point such as Nebraska, and then another flight from Nebraska to New York. This can often result in big savings!

When booking the flight with a person, ask them if the rate that they are offering you is the best rate for the flight. It never hurts to ask, and sometimes they may offer you a different option for a lesser price.

If you’re staying in a hotel for your vacation, check if there is a travel plan package offered that will help lower your fees on both airfare and the hotel. Many hotels and airlines operate in tandem to offer good deals to customers that book with both of them.
