Why Go on a Trekking Holiday?

Why Go On a Trekking Holiday? There is a huge amount of choice out there if you’re looking to take a well earned break. Whether on your own or with friends or family, most of us need a holiday now and again to recharge our batteries and reenergise ourselves. A trekking holiday might not be your first choice, but you should think again as it’s a great way of enjoying your holiday. It keeps you active, lets you enjoy the company of others and shakes up the nine to five lifestyle. We explore how…

Choice

Firstly, there are a huge range of trekking holidays to choose from. You can wrap up warm and hike in the Himalaya or experience the humidity of the Amazon rainforest. You can walk in the shadow of the pyramids and Mount Sinai or on a wild-west trail to the Grand Canyon. It’s up to you. You also choose the type of walking holiday you are going on. You can do anything from a gentle walk along easy trails to a strenuous high-altitude trek. Most trekking holidays can also encompass other holiday activities such as adventure sports, sight-seeing or simply relaxing. You can choose where you’re going to go and what you’re going to do as opposed to being tied down to one specific area and activity. A walking holiday really does give you a tremendous sense of freedom and possibility.

Adventure

It is this sense of freedom that walking and trekking gives you that turns your holiday into an adventure. After looking at a brochure and reading an itinerary, you still don’t realise how incredible an adventure you are on until you are experiencing the trek itself. Walking Holidays unearth secrets and experiences that you can’t even imagine. There are new friends to be met along the way and new sights and sounds waiting down each bend in the path ahead. The thrill of taking the road less-travelled is electric, infectious and not to be missed.

A Social Experience

Trekking holidays are rarely solo pursuits, and trekking with others really adds to the experience. The adventurous feeling of walking along the Inca trail is doubled because you have friends or family with you to experience it, as is the sense of achievement after you’ve reached Everest Base Camp on your trekking holiday in Nepal or summited Mount Kilimanjaro. Moments like these are much better because you have someone to share them with.

Activity

Another great feature of a trekking holiday is the fact that it is active and you have the choice of deciding how active or demanding you want the trek to be. Even the most gentle trekking holiday will be a healthy, hearty way of getting out of the office and into nature. With life at home becoming increasingly sedentary, a holiday that gives you both exercise and enjoyment is a great change from the norm.

Enjoyment

Lastly, and most importantly, trekking holidays are great fun. The mix of companionship on the trek, the sense of achievement when you reach your destination and freedom from the routine experiences of life make trekking holidays a hugely enjoyable option for anyone. Normal beach or city break holidays will seem flat and predictable after you have experienced adventure, fun and activity in one holiday, trekking the world.
